Salimata Diabate
PERFORMANCE and MUSIC
One of the very few women to play the balafon and percussion in Burkina Faso, Sali learnt by listening in secret to her father, a great balafonist, initially defying his ban as girls were not supposed to play this instrument.
In Ouagadougou, she formed her group Afro Faso Jeunesse, while accompanying artists such as Fatou Sacko, Irène Tassembedo, Eudoxie Gnoula and Sidiki Yougbaré on international stages.
Now based in Montpellier, she teaches and composes her own music.
